Applications are now open for Science in the City 2026!
This year’s edition will take place on 25th and 26th September. This year’s theme is: “Resist, Reimagine, Research”. We’re exploring how scientific innovations from the past have shaped our present and how they can help us build a better future. It’s a unique opportunity to engage thousands of people (we had over 33,000 visitors in 2025) with science, history, and the arts, while showcasing research and innovations.
The invitation is open to organisations, institutions, and individuals who want to participate by contributing with interactive workshops, experiments, hands-on activities and other engaging ideas. We aim to continue educating, inspiring, and sparking curiosity in citizens.

Festival Theme: “Research, Resist, Reimagine.”
We invite participants to explore how research and knowledge can empower communities to understand today’s challenges and actively shape a better future. At a time marked by climate change, technological transformation, global health crises, and social challenges, research plays a vital role in providing the clarity, credibility, and tools needed to create meaningful and lasting change.

Timeline:

Pre- Festival (August- September): Online or in-person
Online dialogues, escape rooms, film screenings, real-world workshops, and more. -
Street festival (25 and 26 September Valletta): In-person
Interactive stands, street science shows, busking, games, demos, experiments, sensory gardens, artistic installations, VR and AR, and others. -
Performance festival (6 and 7 November in Valletta): In-person
Exhibitions, comedy, science shows, performing arts, game shows, workshops, debates, dance and others -
Virtual festival (January 2027): Online
Fishbowl discussions, online escape rooms, science games, workshops and others. -
Post Festival (January-March 2027): Online or in-person
Various events and workshops, including SitC goes to the school.
