You Are the Staircase was a six-metre-high interactive light sculpture and installation by Norbert Francis Attard, inspired by the double helix structure of DNA. Installed at the junction of St. John’s Street and Merchant’s Street, the artwork invited visitors to climb its spiral staircase and experience a new perspective of Valletta. Drawing a parallel between the DNA molecule as a carrier of life’s code and the staircase as a pathway between levels, the installation encouraged audiences to reflect on identity, discovery, and the meaning of life through an immersive and participatory experience.
