Step into Malta’s hidden history with an art installation that reveals the deep and often overlooked legacy of slavery. Created in collaboration with historians Joan Abela and Emanuel Buttigieg, this powerful mural invites you to uncover stories that have long been silenced.
Made up of layered canvases, the mural changes as you move, revealing new scenes, characters, and voices from Malta’s 17th to 19th century archives, contracts, letters, and testimonies once used to control and oppress. Here, these cold legal records transform into a vivid tribute to resilience, resistance, and hope, giving voice to those who were denied one.
The installation connects past and present, featuring insights from human rights advocate Neil Falzon to highlight ongoing challenges around exploitation today. This experience goes beyond art it invites reflection, sparks conversation, and challenges you to rethink history and its impact on society now.
