Imagine listing all the items and objects YOU used, just yesterday. Now imagine if you listed these same items for a whole year… flabbergasted, I’m sure. If YOU feel it’s time to do something about it, join Earth Systems Association to learn more about human consumption, whether it is food, water, plastic, waste, energy or clothing. Play fun games to learn about learn about sustainable usage of important and limited resources that are found in Malta and other parts of the world. Decreasing your carbon footprint with these guys will be a walk in the park!
Trees have become the talk of the town in Malta and for very good reason too. ‘Grow 10 Trees’ have all the info you need to nurture a love of trees. Malta has some 60 different species of trees, and hundreds if not thousands of plant species, all well accustomed to our hot, dry climate. Find out more about these plants and the important difference between local, alien and invasive species and become an ecological warrior who knows a thing or two about the environment. Don’t forget to collect your free seeds. Get planting people the planet needs YOU!
On the subject of trees, do YOU know your Pistacia from your Pine, your Carob from your Caper, or your Buckthorn from your Bay Laurel? Come and test your knowledge with the various plants on display by the Institute for Earth Systems.
Did you know that one single bird could fly over 10,000km every year? Birds are the most avid travellers on Earth! Francesco, a Turtle Dove that travelled no less than 4,500km to make it back safely to his breeding grounds in the south of Italy. Birdlife Malta have been tracking him thanks to the satellite tracker on his back. Join BirdLife Malta’s ornithologists and birders for a night of feathered fun and games. They have been studying bird migration with the help of bird ringing and satellite tagging for many years, so we can learn how best to care for these vulnerable beings. Autumn is peak time for our feathered friends to travel halfway across the globe and back. Respect!
The Environment and Resources Authority (ERA) stand will make you experience how to be ‘Fair with Air’. Enjoy an interactive projection experience about the main sources of air pollution in Malta, how monitoring of air quality is carried out by ERA, its effects on the human body and the several actions YOU can take to reduce air pollution. Lots of fun to be had in their new interactive projections tent.
Are you concerned about the impact of human waste on the environment? As our populations grow we are consuming more and more, and all of that waste has to go somewhere. It’s time to start thinking of solutions. In 2020, Malta will be introducing a scheme which allows people to deposit waste in return for small amounts of money as part of a Zero Waste Initiative. At the GSD marketing stand you try out the “reverse vending machine” that will make this possible, and to learn more about the ways that we can minimise our impact on the world around us.
Do you dream of a world where traffic is nothing more than a figment of your imagination? Greenroads Limited and Project Aegle Foundation (PAF) have teamed up to introduce a country wide challenge where commuters will be recognised and rewarded for their positive mobility behaviour.
