At #YOUNME we’re finding out all about the science of us, both as social groups and as individuals.
The UM’s department of Statistics brings you a great vanishing act! One where gross misconceptions about Maltese society disappear in the face of statistics. Take the one where it was believed that there were seven women for every male in the country. Sheer nonsense of course, put to rest by the trusted figures that, let’s face it never lie! So join the stats teams to find out the funny, the interesting, and the unique fables of our times. Oh and do help them by taking a short survey, the results of which will be revealed during the activity itself.
Matese culture changes over time and sometimes it may be quite hard to notice the different nuances, Statistics vs Misconceptions will show you how far we have come. Take one of their surveys and become part of the science and the fun.
Come over and learn how science is used to solve crime, CSA will teach you how to examine all the clues. YOU are going to need these new skills anyway, if you’re going to help solve the murder at the ELSA stand. Use those newly acquired scientific deduction skills to solve the crime of the summer. Get to the bottom of who killed Mrs Green, decipher the myriad of clues…. you’re in for one helluva surprise.
Ignorance of the law won’t keep you out of jail, so join GħSL (the faculty-based law student association) in Castille square. Meet the students behind the #KnowYourLaw and #MaltaOnThisDay campaigns and test your knowledge about the laws of the Maltese Islands.
It is said that the beginnings of civilization were spurred by fermented beverages. Whether through arts, religion or language – alcohol – even then acting as a social lubricant, has been around for at least 9,000 years. Come and learn about the science of whisky at the Malta Cafe Scientifique event.
