A custom app that brings to life the amazing stories of Senglea’s locals.

A story of life in Senglea in the 1950’s through Stella’s quandary. It Happened Here (Stella) is a unique, immersive audio journey through the streets of Senglea, inspired by interviews with residents and the stories they shared of what life was like in the historic city. The launch, at VDC of this exciting, innovative piece is an audio visual installation that uses surround sound and images to immerse the audience and trigger interest in downloading the mobile app.

In 1959, a young woman faces an impossible choice between love and duty, as a city rebuilds after the ravages of war. Through a mobile app, audiences will uncover the story for themselves by walking through the city streets, triggering audio segments based on their location as they follow the characters on their journey.

The journey will be available on demand from the following week. Writer Malcolm Galea and director Philip Leone-Ganado will be present for the launch to introduce the project, share experiences of its development and answer questions.

Audience members will require a mobile phone with internet access and headphones.
It Happened Here! Is part of the Malta Chamber of Scientists project, ‘Sowing Seeds’, co-funded by the Arts Council Malta’s Programme Support Fund, Science in the City and the Senglea Local Council.
