Malta Medical Students' Association

Festival Area: How the Health

Organisation Description

The Malta Medical Students’ Association is a non-governmental, non-political student organisation that was established in 1951. “Our mission is to enhance the education of future medical professionals through enforcing active participation in their teaching system, organizing international exchanges and implementing training in the various fields of the public health sector. We also aim at empowering the Maltese society, including its marginalized communities, to become functionally involved in decision taking within the National Healthcare System and to reduce health-related social problems through culture and gender sensitive health advocacy.”

Keeping the World Beating - the Process of Blood Donation

The presentation have two intertwining parts – raising awareness on blood donation and educating about the scientific aspect of blood, the donation process and what happens with the products derived from whole blood. This would naturally lead to a discussion on the importance of donating blood in a functioning healthcare system, and the audience would be encouraged to donate themselves or remind others that they can donate. After the presentation, a short Q&A session would follow, and contact details and opening hours of the NBTS would be shared in order to facilitate the donation of blood.
