Pre-Festival Event 1

Communicating Science Workshop

Area Name: Women in STEM

Institute/Department/Organisation: Esplora, Anthony Galea and the Malta Chamber of Scientists

Type of event: Talks and Discussions

Age Suitability: 16+

Digital Platform: Zoom

Date: 1st week of December

Time: TBC

We are pleased to announce that the Malta Chamber of Scientist will be running an online workshop for female scientists and researchers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) subjects and would love to have you participate! This is open to students who are just starting their studies at tertiary level and to those who have been in the field for many years and we aim to hold this in the first week of December 2020.

The workshop is part of “Women in STEM – Bridging the gap”, a year-long project funded through Voluntary Organisations Project Scheme (VOPs) of the Malta Council for the Voluntary Sector. This initiative aims to change perceptions by showing that STEM careers are open to everyone, no matter the background, age or gender. To achieve this, the Women in STEM project wants to help to spread the word of the fantastic research being done by female experts.

Although positive steps have been made in recent years, female students and researchers in STEM subjects are still underrepresented, we want to change this. Our workshop will provide some insights into effective communication techniques that will help you share your work in fun and engaging ways. Tuition will be provided by seasoned communicators from Esplora Interactive Science Centre and Anthony Galea, the 2018 JCI World Champion for Public Speaking. Delivering a workshop on the best ways to engage young girls with STEM subjects and encouraging a curiosity that will last a lifetime, fueling a future of STEM to be an equal and diversely represented area.

Those who participate in this workshop will immediately have a platform to put their newly learnt skills to the test, with opportunities to share your STEM experience and work at a number of “Women in STEM” events such as an online school event for primary and secondary school children, Science in the City, Malta Café Scientifique THINK and Esplora, to name just a few!

If you would be interested in participating in this workshop, please fill out the following form: https://forms.gle/iAk9SDfbnPvh3ief6

We look forward to working with you and helping share all the important work that you do!
