2019 - The Science Of You
The 2019 edition of Science in the City was inspired by the theme The Science of YOU, which explored the science of human development and the many factors that shape individual identity. The festival examined how scientific knowledge across disciplines contributes to understanding who we are, how we think, and how we interact with the world around us.
The programme engaged with topics such as genetics, medicine, cognitive science, linguistics, artificial intelligence, big data, nanotechnology, transport, food science, and communication, highlighting how science influences both personal and societal decision-making. It also reflected on the reciprocal relationship between humans and science, including the impact of human activity on the environment and society.
Through a combination of interactive artworks, workshops, talks, and performances, the festival encouraged reflection on the concept of “YOU” from biological, social, and technological perspectives, fostering dialogue between researchers, artists, and the public on how science shapes identity and future possibilities.
