About Us

Science in the City (SitC) Festival has been building bridges between researchers, artists and the community for over a decade

The SitC Festival is part of the European Researchers’ Night – a night in which over 450 cities across Europe take part to present innovative research to the public in an accessible manner.

With over 30,000 visitors every year, and reaching 20,000 viewers in the virtual festival, it is a fantastic opportunity for scientists, artists, and citizens to collaborate and get creative. The festival occurs in multiple forms but has the same goal – engaging the community with science and creativity, giving a platform to the local community to share their perspectives and advocate for positive change.

Each year the SitC festival adopts a unique theme, developing new and imaginative ways to engage citizens.

Dazzling art pieces, inspired by Malta’s fresh and emerging research, have become synonymous with the festival’s magenta logo.

2025 Theme: Past Forward

''Past Forward'' bridges history, science, and the arts, exploring how past innovations shape our future breakthroughs - turning nostalgia into inspiration for creativity and progress.

Contemplating past milestones in science and culture can help us to understand past innovations, and how they continue to shape our present and even future choices. Nostalgia isn’t just sentimental, it can spark creativity, optimism, and fuel the drive for innovation. By thoughtfully examining the successes and failures of history, we can shape a more sustainable and forward-thinking future – which is the strong focal point of the 2025 edition of the festival.
