What is Science in the City Festival?

Science in the City Festival is one of the biggest festivals taking place in the breathtaking, historical capital city of Malta, Valletta! Our mission is to promote science to everyone, despite the background or age. This year, Science in the City will engage the public, and work its magic in Valletta, for the tenth time in a row!

When is the festival being held?

The real-life street festival will be held from Friday, 30th September 2022 at Fort St. Elmo, and performances will be held at St. Dominic Theatre on both Friday, September 30th and Saturday, 1st October! The virtual festival will take place on October 7th, 2022.

During which hours will the festival take place?
  • Street festival: 6 pm to 11 pm on Friday
  • Performance festival: 5 pm to 11 pm on Friday AND 10 am to midnight on Saturday
  • Virtual festival: 7 pm to 11 pm
What are this year's venues?
  • Street festival: Fort St Elmo
  • Performances: Sala San Duminku

Satellite events: Spazju Kreattiv

We also have satellite events, which are on both Friday and Saturday of the festival but at Spazju Kreattiv.

Where can I find this year's festival programme?

You can find the programme on our website, and on our facebook page!

Do I need to book to participate in the activities?

For our performances, workshops, virtual festival and special events ‘It Happened Here!’, booking is required. We also do encourage you to book for all activities as we use Eventbrite to send you our surveys which help us improve on our festival and gauge our results. Did we mention that everyone who fills in the survey may win 50 euro cash prize?

Are all the activities free of charge?

Yes! All activities are FREE of charge. This is thanks to the funding we win through the EU’s Horizon Programme and the sponsors who are kind enough to support our event.

Can I apply to volunteer with Science in the City?

Please do! We always need an additional pair of volunteers’ hands! It’s a great opportunity to gain new skills and meet new people!

How do I apply for an internship with Science in the City?

We are eternally grateful to all the interns for all the work and time they dedicate to planning the festival. We couldn’t do it without them. If you want to join a passionate, internationally diverse team, check our website frequently to see when the applications open!

Where can I leave a comment about the festival or anything related?

For any comments, questions or just to say hi, please message us on facebook or send an email to [email protected]. We’re always happy to assist you!

Is the festival only for children or adults?

Not at all! Our activities are suitable for everyone! Check out our event page where you can find an age category for every performance, stand and event!

How do I become a partner/sponsor of the Science in the City Festival?

First of all, a huge thank you to all our partners and sponsors, without you the magic we spread each year would lose its powers! We cannot wait to welcome you to our Science in the City family! Please hover over our GET INVOLVED page and look for Sponsorship in the top bar or drop us an e-mail  [email protected]. It would be a pleasure to work with you!

Where can I find more about your activities?
