About Us

Science in the City (SitC) Festival has been building bridges between researchers, artists and the community for over a decade

The Festival is part of the European Researchers’ Night which takes place on the same night/s
in over 300 cities across Europe.

With over 30,000 visitors every year and 20,000 views in the online festival, it is a fantastic opportunity for scientists, artists and citizens to collaborate and get creative. The festival occurs in multiple forms but has the same goal, that of  engaging  the community with science and creativity, giving a platform to local people to share their perspective and advocate for positive change.

Each SitC is unique and every year the Festival develops novel and exciting ways to engage citizens.

Dazzling art pieces, inspired by Malta’s most relevant research, have become synonymous with the festival’s magenta logo.

JEDI theme

JEDI’s interconnected values form a puzzle that reflects the festival’s core principles, driving every activity and engagement.

This puzzle acts as a catalyst in the festival, for innovative communication of research and amplify its impact to show that science can positively affect society to be more accessible and inclusive of diverse voices. We believe more diverse and inclusive research will improve the quality and impact of research.

J.E.D.I. is

We all have the duty to challenge prejudice and address inequalities that arise from a differential distribution of power, resources, opportunities, and privilege.

We need to take action to eliminate misconceptions about age, culture, varying perspectives, disability, ethnicity, gender, demographics, religious beliefs, sexual orientation, tol pave the way for a more balanced and healthy society.

Systems, projects, and research should be created with the needs and talents of a diversity of people and groups in mind, so that people feel welcomed, valued, and affirmed.

A Call to Action!

Join us in this transformative journey. Together, we can make science and research more inclusive, accessible, and impactful. Become a JEDI this year.
