Before even stepping into the exhibition hall at Spazju Kreattiv, feast your senses on “Transmission Interrupted” designed by MCAST ICA student Martina Camilleri (Atrium). Having studied the destructive action of man on ocean life, Martina was inspired to create a piece that highlighted the importance of taking a serious look at the consequences of our actions. The artwork is made up of two components with the sculpture having been created entirely from scratch, using digital and manual methods; from 3D modelling to laser cutting wood, cardboard and rope construction. The use of sound is critical to the impact of the structure, showing how the sound waves man has introduced into the underwater environment are slowly disrupting the communication among cetaceans. Immersed in the eerie sounds created by man and the sea creatures alike, Transmission Interrupted weaves a sad story of a struggle for survival.
