Embark on a storytelling journey that takes you back in time. Esplora’s Shadows of Malta’s Times is a shadow puppet show that focuses on the timeline of Maltese history, highlighting the links between science and culture and the influences these had on each other throughout the years.

Shadow puppetry is an ancient form of storytelling which has been around for thousands of years and is said to have originated in China.  Flat cut-out figures, are held between a source of light and a translucent screen and this allows us to visually and artistically represent the science behind light and shadows.

Shows will be held at 6.45pm, 8.15pm and 9.30pm.

You can also join Esplora to experience the science behind the shadow puppets through hands-on activities: What can you do to create coloured shadows? Which objects let light pass through them and what are these called? How can your light source help to project small and large puppets together on the screen? How can you achieve your desired shadow by controlling the angle of your light source? This is the perfect opportunity for you and your friends to combine your creative and performance skills with your investigative skills.

So what are you waiting for? Go on, give it a try!
