The University of Malta and the Malta Chamber of Scientists, as lead organisations of the Science in the City — European Researchers’ Night Consortium are interested in receiving expressions of interest from professionals or competent organisations. The experience and expertise required are in the fields of:

  • Media Production
  • Logistics and Event Organisation

They will support the consortium and help execute the festival’s activities on the last Friday of the month of September 2018 and 2019, possibly Esplora the following week and Notte Bianca in October.

The selected partners shall join a consortium of stakeholders and interested parties, who will bid for available funding, primarily from the European Commission, as well as other sources.

Science in the City — European Researchers’ Night, is a Science and Art Festival. It places researchers on center stage to help them communicate their work to the public. Central to the Festival are scientists in collaboration with artists, using science-inspired art forms such as music, sculptures, dance, street installations and exhibitions to communicate research.

The event forms part of a Pan-European initiative known as European Researchers’ Night, which runs concurrently in over 300 cities. The event highlights the importance of researchers and their work, in our daily lives. It showcases how this science can contribute to the prosperity and well-being of our society. The European Researchers’ Night is supported by the EU’s Research and Innovation Programme, Horizon 2020.

Following 6 successful years, during which more than 80,000 people visited the event, Science in the City is gearing up for its seventh edition. It will be held in the last week of September in Valletta.

Media Production Partner

The Media Production Partner: will be required to provide strategic direction leading to the production of professional multi-media material for the promotion of the event. They will also need to provide a documentary about research at the University of Malta and a short highlight video of the festival , for archiving and reporting. Interested parties should have a solid track record in the scripting, production and editing of video promotional material, documentaries, and related products, and should be able to provide a professional technical framework in this field during the Festival, possibly including video links with other venues.

The logistics / Event Organising Partner

The Logistics / Event Organising Partner: will provide operational event support during the Science in the City, and will ensure that the management of the various activities within the event is seamlessly coordinated. The selected partner will be responsible for the organisation of the setup and management of the event, including the preparation of venues with proper structures, security, police, health services, lighting, electricity supply, sound and other technical facilities. This will also include the setting up of sufficient signage and effective information points throughout the event area. The Logistics Partner will also assume responsibility for the provision of all necessary operating permits and for the clearing up and cleaning of all the utilized areas before and after the event.

Submissions shall be ranked according to objective criteria, experience in the field and achievements to date.

The awards shall be subject to availability of funds.
